Dear post-secondary educators, faculty and staff,
The David Suzuki Foundation is thrilled to invite you to our upcoming professional development workshop for postsecondary educators, led by Indigenous facilitators from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation.
Join us for an immersive experience on Chá7elkwnech (Gambier Island), where you'll have the opportunity to engage with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh knowledge keepers, educators, and community leaders. Throughout the workshop, you'll participate in insightful sessions and workshops designed to enrich your understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture and the importance of indigenization, decolonization, justice, and inclusion in education.
Here's what you can expect:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people and their stewardship of the land for thousands of years.
- Engage in meaningful conversations with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh educators and leaders and learn why change is essential within the classroom.
- Build your capacity to effectively incorporate Indigenous perspectives into your teaching practice.
- Expand your professional network by connecting with educators who share a passion for Indigenization and decolonization.
Plus, you'll have the opportunity to experience the stunning natural beauty of Chá7elkwnech (Gambier Island), just a short boat ride from Horseshoe Bay.
